The Book of Psalm is a touching collection of songs and poems that speak to every part of our lives. I find so much encouragement when I read and study it. Whether I’m feeling joyful, overwhelmed, or in need of some serious encouragement, Psalm always leaves me feeling refreshed.
One way to keep this encouragement close to our heart is to “hide God’s Word in our hearts!” Many times I have quoted Psalm when I was feeling low or going through a tough time. My favorite is Psalm 121. We find so many promises and reminders in this book of who God is and how much He loves us. These verses lift us up and guide us through our day-to-day struggles.
So, let’s dive into this journey of memorization together! This is a list of some verses from the book of Psalm that I recommend memorizing. Since many of the single verses are so short and poetic, you can always add a few verses near them to make it more challenging. You may already know some of these.
- Psalm 1
A brief but impactful chapter that contrasts the way of the righteous and the wicked, highlighting the blessings of following God’s ways. - Psalm 8
Beautiful chapter about the order God has designed. - Psalm 19:7-10
“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb..” - Psalm 23 whole chapter
- Psalm 34
This chapter is filled with praises for God’s goodness and deliverance, encouraging trust and worship. - Psalm 37:1-5
“Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” - Psalm 46:1
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” - Psalm 51:10-12
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” - Psalm 91:1-4
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” - Psalm 100
A joyful psalm of thanksgiving and praise, inviting all to worship and acknowledge God’s goodness. - Psalm 119:103-105 (I memorized this whole chapter as a child.)
The longest chapter in the Bible, it focuses on the beauty and importance of God’s Word and His commandments. You can choose specific sections (like verses 1-16 or 105-112) for memorization, or focus on key themes. - Psalm 121
A great encouragement in the midst of trouble! - Psalm 139:23-24
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
